Mission

The Information Systems Group (ISGroup) was established in 2001 by Prof. Paolo Tiberio and it is currently in the Physics Informatics and Mathematics Department (FIM) of the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.

Nowadays, the ever-growing and widespread availability of data from manifold information sources, like the World Wide (Semantic) Web, Peer-to-Peer networks, social media, digital libraries, mobile devices, and ubiquitous computing systems and sensors, opens up huge possibilities for the next generation information systems. The efficient and effective management of such a wealth of multi-faceted information, ranging from textual data, to semi-structured, graph-modeled, and stream data poses outstanding research challenges from several points of views.

The ISGroup’s objective is to design and develop methodologies and tools for efficiently and effectively managing and accessing non-conventional data in a large variety of application contexts.

The group expertise covers several research fields, ranging from data sharing and interoperability to approximate search, from real-time querying to semantic knowledge extraction and multiversion information management. Grounding on this expertise, recently, our research has mainly been focused on AI methodologies for processing data in-the-wild.
